UGANDA : FUBA Playoffs: UCU down Falcons in OT, A1 sweep KIU

W: A1 Challenge 49-39 KIU Rangers (A1 win series 2-0)
M: Krishna Falcons 76-80 UCU Canons (Series tied 1-1)

The UCU Canons arrived late for Game 1 of the FUBA Playoffs against Falcons last Friday. It is the major reason their coach, Nicholas Natuhereza advanced for losing that game. With Game 2 on last night, the Canons arrived for the game nearly two hours before tip-off time and it paid off.
The Canons beat Falcons 80-76 in overtime behind Suudi Ulanga and Ivan Lumanyika’s big night. Ulanga scored 5 of his game high 26 points in overtime and Ivan Lumanyika contributed 25 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
Falcons took the first quarter 18-15, and 20-9 in the second to go into halftime leading by 14 points. The Canons exploded for 27 points in the third frame to take a 51-50 lead into the fourth quarter.
With Falcons leading 66-62 with just over 2 minutes to play in the fourth, Canons went on an 8-1 to lead 70-67 with 14 seconds when Ulanga knocked off Syrus Kiviiri for a 3-point play to cap the run. On in-bounding, Steven Omony’s long range attempt drew steel but Syrus Kiviiri’s drained the triple on the second chance with 2 second to take the game to Overtime.
Ulanga opened the scoring for UCU in the extra period with a lay-up through traffic, a frame in which Canons out scored Falcons 10-6 to force the series into a decider due on Sunday.
Syrus Kiviiri had team high 20 points for Falcons, Steven Omony had 19 and 12 boards while Peter Elungat contributed 14 points. Steven Mwesigye had 9 points to go with 11 rebounds.

Meanwhile, A1 Challenge completed the 2-0 clean sweep of KIU Rangers following their 49-39 game 2 win. This was A1’s second sweep of KIU in as many years.

Vickie Ntale scored 10 points and picked 15 rebounds to pace A1 and Sylvia Nakazibwe contributed 10 points.

Aurore Irakoze had 13 points and 9 rebounds for KIU.
