TANZANIA : Prisons Snatch First Victory in Ilala Basketball League

TANZANIA Prisons recorded their first victory at the ongoing Ilala District Basketball League against Mogone at the Zanaki Secondary School ground in Dar es Salaam on Friday.
Prisons grabbed their first two points in the league after thrashing their rival Magone 74-65 in the tough match.
The match was tough for each team from the start. Prisons went ahead to win the first quarter 14-9 but found themselves down 10-14 in the second to make the game even tough after interval when Prisons recorder a narrow 24-23 lead.
In the third quarter, Tanzania Prisons added 14 points while Magone in sparking form, fought back and their efforts paid back with 19 points.
Magone could not strengthen their grip at final quarter to allow Tanzania Prisons to fire exciting 36-23 points and seal the victory.
In-form Justin Mkama scored 17 points for Tanzania Prisons and took four rebounds during the match to help his team, as Abel Rikosi also hit 17 points. Alex George scored seven points, who had 15 rebounds and eight points came from Samwel Singe.
Top scorers for Magone were Isiaka Masoud -12 points and he was instrumental for his team with string of good passes. Alex Mbwana and Joseph Luzangi scored 11 and 8 points respectively.
In another match, Savio were awarded two points without a fight after their opponent Airwing failed to turn-up for the match.
The results helped Savio to strengthen their league lead with eight points from four matches. However, they had big test to their skill later on the day against Vijana 'City Bulls' who are also yet to drop a point.
Vijana took maximum six points from three matches against Airwing, Jogoo and Magone. Their match against Prisons on Thursday was cancelled before final whistle due to heavy rain.
The winners of six-team league which will be played over two legs will represent Ilala District in the National Basketball League later this year.
