HIGH STAKES: Power's Joseph Ikong attempts to evade Stephen Omony of Falcon
When Falcons meet Dmark Power in tonight’s penultimate round of the Airtel National Basketball League, it will pit the hottest team against the most stylish respectively, writes Felix Eupal.

In the two teams’ last meeting, Falcons ran away 78-66 winners to end the first round on a high. But as they look forward to extend their 14-game winning record – an unprecedented benchmark in the topflight – the two-time defending champions stand in their way.
“We are going to do what we have always done and hope for the best,” says Falcons skipper Stephen Omony.
So, fans should expect a thrilling night as both teams aim to tighten loose ends ahead of the playoffs. For the coaches, it will be a litmus test to separate players that will get play time in the post season and those who will cheer from the bench.
Most importantly for Falcons, a win will confirm their status as top seeds, which should create a smooth passage to the finals by avoiding either of Power or Warriors. For Power, it’s a chance for revenge as well as to reposition themselves as the team for the big occasion.
Power thrives in such pressure games. High stakes bring the best out of star men like Ben Komakech and Isaac Afidra, who love throwing everything at the opponents.
However it won’t be an easy job against a star-studded Falcons.
For one, coach Bernice Ankunda has to find a way of rotating guards in the absence of injured first choice Emmanuel Enabu. On the other hand, Falcons will also be without influential the Phillip Ameny, who was yet to return from Nairobi by press time. Veteran Abdullahi Ramathan should fill the void but will greatly need to improve from last weekend’s performance against Warriors.
