KENYA : Poor preparation cost KPA in Africa Club event .
KENYAN teams must change the way they prepare for continental championships if they are to make a mark in the competitions, an international referee revealed yesterday. Juma Kent, Fiba international referee and coach, who accompanied Kenya Ports authority (KPA) to the 17th edition of the Africa women championships in Lagos, Nigeria said the team suffered heavy defeats because they were ill prepared for the task ahead. He said KPA need a serious training programme if they are to succeed. “KPA have participated in this championships for long but they have never made a mark.
The recent event in Nigeria exposed them as one of the worst teams in the tournament,” he observed adding: “the institution must now invest in new players.” Kent said KPA lacked a play-maker to drive the team and did not have reliable players at the post to score and rebound. KPA finished bottom of five team event, losing all their four matches and winning a match courtesy of a walkover. “KPA didn’t have a play maker who could feed the post players and this is why they were beaten.”
