Zone 6 Qualifiers: Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe for one qualifying ticket

The Zone 6 Africa Nations Cup for men will run through Monday 30th March to 04th April 2009 in Maputo (Mozambique). Three (03) teams will compete to book the only qualifying ticket for the final stage: Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Mozambique will meet again South Africa. South Africa ruled out Mozambique during the last game of 2007 zone 6 ANC qualifiers played in Zimbabwe (South Africa – Mozambique 74 – 50). Despite the defeat, a wild card was given to Mozambique to take part in the final round played in Angola.
Zimbabwe is participating for second time in this competition after hosting the Zone 6 2007 ANC qualifiers.

All the delegations confirmed their arrival by Saturday 28th March 2009 in Maputo. The South African delegation who travel by road, is expected at midday to Maputo while Zimbabwe team will arrive by flight around 20 hours. .

The officials of this competition are from Angola included Manuel Antonio Sofrimento (Technical Commissioner), Bernado Antonio and Machado Pinto Iracelmo (referees).

The technical meeting will take place on Saturday 28th March 2009 at 21 hours. According, the FIBA Africa’s Unified Rules of Competition, the event will be played in round robin system.
