UGANDA : Zone V ANC 2009 Qualifiers : Omony, Blick named on National squad

Professional Steven Omwony has been included on Uganda’s team for the Zone 5 Africa championship qualifiers due to be held from February 23 - March 1 in Kigali, Rwaanda.
Omwony, who turns out for PLS Hawks of Seychelles, leads a list of 39 players that have been invited for trials.
“We are determined to have Omwony on the team. We are looking around for funds to facilitate his travel,” Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) assistant general secretary Joseph Manano said yesterday.
Also included on the team is former two-time most valuable player Norman Blick, who returned to the country recently after a three-month playing stint with UK’s Southampton Trailblazers.
All players apart from Omwony will be subjected to trials on Sunday.
“Omony has a proven record and there is no need for him to come for trials,” Manano noted.
MTN-FUBA League champions Sadolin Power dominate the men’s team with seven players. They include Isaac Afidra, Joseph Ikong, Mark Enabu, David Kiberu, Ben Komakech, Ken Balyejusa and Allan Tawoda.
Despite failing to make the finals, Warriors are also well represented with Joshua Etalu, Brian Gumisiriza, Ronnie Kasewu and Nelson Wafula.
The women’s team has also been summoned to begin preparations.
FUBA's technical committee released a preliminary list of 39 men and 38 ladies from whom 12 players will be selected for either team set to vie for a place in Africa Nations Championship.
