NIGERIA : First Deepwater complete women league slot and open training ahead Zenith Premier League

Nigeria latest women club, First Deepwater basketball club recently completed its move to be part of the Nigeria Women Premier league as it rounded up negotiation with the management of Dodan Amazons basketball club in one of the nation’s most transparent take-over moves.

Both sides (Dodan Amazons led by its Coordinator, Col. Sam Ahmedu (Rtd) and First Deepwater basketball club led by its chairman, Engr. Babatunde Babalola) were engaged in a take-over talk since last December which culminated in the final agreement last week.
With the development, First Deepwater basketball club of Lagos has now taken the place of the Amazons in the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, organized Nigeria Women Premier League sponsored by financial institution giant, Zenith Bank Plc in the 2008/ 2009 season expected to dunk-off in early March, 2009 and beyond.

First Deepwater basketball club which held a successful screening of players for its outfit resume training Monday ahead the new season with fourteen players out of the seventeen that made it from the screening exercise in attendance.The fourteen players who were at Monday practice session includes, Patricia Chukwuma, Mary Chinweukwu, Dorcas Jiya, Juliet Ejogo, Julie Onyelugo, Temitope Oladele, Rebecca Iritei, Magdalene Ukato, Memuna Fuludu and Joan Afimia.
Others are Nkechi Akashili, Folashade Ogunsemoyin, Ijeoma Uchendu and Kelechi Obasi while the three players who are still been expected are Kikelomo Saliu, Atosu Upe and Chinenye Okoro.
Club chairman, Engr. Babalola at the weekend charged the players to be honest, hardworking and dedicated to their duties and leave the rest to the management of the team for a positive outing in the coming season.
