SEYCHELLES : SBF receives R7,000

THE Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF) has received R7,000 to help cover the expenses it incurred during the 2008 season.

The money was handed over to the SBF earlier this week and will go towards paying officials for league matches played during the season.
The money comes from the management of the Premium Cobras and PLS Hawks teams. Premium Cobras’ president Roy Collie told Sports Nation that the management of the two teams will use some of the money to organise a youth tournament next year.
The money was raised from the sale of tickets for the Sanken Cup tournament won by Anse Etoile Stars (women) and PLS Hawks (men).
Sanken took over the sponsorship of the usual SBF Cup tournament after the local basketball body suspended it.
This was because the federation was in no position to make payments amounting to R25,000 to match officials for league matches they had taken charge of.

The SBF then decided to cut the SBF Cup from the calendar after a potential sponsor backed out at the last minute.
