Not even the top prize can entice the Bugema Adventist School boys’ team to play a basketball game as long as it’s on a Saturday.

It’s their Sabbath Day, which requires them not to engage in any physical activity unless it comes late in the evening.
Yet the Bugema team has qualified for the semifinals of the ongoing Sprite Schools Cup due tomorrow at Kigezi High School, Kabale.
“I hope the technical committee rescinds the decision and put the semis on Friday (today). The boys have to go to church on Saturday because faith comes first,” Bugema coach John Omondi told Daily Monitor yesterday.
Last year’s losing finalists Eagles Nest, Ssaku Secondary School, and St. Michael, are the teams that have made the penultimate stage.
The last group games, to decide the semifinal fixtures, are due this morning but none of the four teams will lose its place. “We want to give players time to rest tomorrow (today) afternoon that’s why the semis and finals will be played Saturday,” basketball official Peter Kirabo said. “If the Bugema team doesn’t turn up for the game, that’s a loss by forfeiture.” Last year, Bugema also skipped their third-place play-off game.
Meanwhile, Maryhill, St. Michael, Lubiri and defending champions Eagles Nest, made the semifinals in the girls category.
