NIGERIA : Bullets win maiden First Deepwater 6-A-Side

Bullets Basketball Team last Sunday won the maiden edition of the First Deepwater Discovery 6-A-Side Competition held at the Sports Hall of the University of Lagos Sports Complex.

The Bullets team made up of five male players and one female player defeated Discovery Basketball Team by 14-12 points in a keenly contested finals.

To get to the finals Bullets Team defeated Tobi Team by 14-08 points in the second semi-finals while Discovery Team had the better of Lead Team via 16-07 points.
As winners the Bullets side went home with a cash prize of N150, 000 (about $1, 280) while Discovery team received N120, 000 (about $1, 025), the third place was won by Lead Team with a 13-06 points victory over Tobi Team.
The Lead Team were rewarded with a cash prize of N90, 000 (about $770) while players of Tobi Team shared N60, 000 (about $513) among themselves.
Organizers of the one-day event, Adenike Carew of Nyk Concept says the whole idea was to give basketball players in Lagos State another form of competition and pledge to make the event a quarterly one.
Babatunde Babalola Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director of First Deepwater Discovery Limited Sponsors of the event in his remark promised the teeming players that the event will get bigger every quarter.

The First Deepwater Discovery boss surprised the players and organizers when he announced a University Scholarship for the male and female most valuable players of the competition.
The two MVPs Demola Oshobanjo and Juliet Edogo both of victorious Bullets Side were full of appreciation to the First Deepwater Discovery Managing Director for the scholarship award.
Babalola says aside the scholarship for the two outstanding players they are also to receive an undisclosed amount of fund every month as up-keep fee throughout their stay in the University.
Both players are undergraduate student of the University of Lagos and play club basketball for Islanders/ Kennys' Bullets basketball club and First Bank basketball club respectively.
The First Deepwater Discovery Limited M.D also promised to float a basketball club that will compete in the Lagos City League next year and later the National Premier League.
