NIGERIA : Zenith Female League gets new date

The Zenith Bank National Female League may not start February 23 as earlier tentatively endorsed by the stakeholders meeting between the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) and the female club owners in Nigeria.

This follows a round table discussion held last week between the Nigerian Federation and the sponsors of Nigeria's flagship female championship, the Zenith Bank.
"The February 23 date was only tentative and that was clear from the start.
The teams agreed with that knowing fully well that a final date can only be certain after consultations with the sponsors.
The adjustment is only very minor and that was already adequately taken care of in the schedule for the season.
And this will be a simple adjustment of about two weeks or thereabout," the Technical Director of the NBBF Dr. Adamu Ahmed told FIBA.
By the adjustment, the league will take off by about the second week of March in the earlier advertised venues.
Enugu, Jos, Abuja and Lagos will host the four legs of the league.
The Federation said that the consultations with Zenith Bank were still on and has been quite fruitful as the season prepares to play in the fourth consecutive season.
"We have made our own submission and they are looking at it and we believe that the end of the day we'll all settle for something that will be quite beneficial to the female players and the Nigerian basketball in general," Adamu said.
When the league starts next month it will take in two more teams as it expands to 10 from the 8 that featured in the last season.
First Bank ladies nicknamed Elephant Girls are the defending champions while Dolphins finished as runners up last term.
There are also Sunshine Queens, Nigeria Customs, Nigeria Immigrations, AHIP, Delta Force and Dodan Amazons.
