RECORD champions Mogas Falcons have sneaked into this year's play-offs after surviving a points-penalty.

Falcons were uncertain of their qualification after Knight Riders petitioned Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (Fuba) accusing them of fielding Louis Habineza, who played for Rwanda's Espoir in the just concluded Africa Zone 5 Club Championships.
It violates Fuba rules to play for two teams in one season.

“We had a technical committee meeting on Tuesday night and decided that Falcons won't lose any points. Yes, the accused player took part in the said tournament but he is registered with us. Since Riders were questioning his legibility, they lose the case because he is registered,” Fuba assistant general secretary Joseph Manano explained to Daily Monitor yesterday.

Falcons thus become the third team to qualify for the play-offs on 28 points after Warriors and table leaders Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono Canons.
But in a desperate fight against relegation, Riders' captain Collin Mukiza has vowed to appeal. “We are yet to receive a communication but there is no way we can lose out. We have all the evidence and will appeal until the right decision is made,” Mukiza asserted.

Kampala International University (KIU) will claim the fourth and last play-offs slot if at all they defeat UCU tonight. Sadolin Power and defending champions Nkumba Marines will be watching from the sidelines hoping that KIU falters, for them to stand a chance.
Fuba recently suspended two Lady Bucks players Mariam Birungi and Sarah Namiro for taking part in the same tourney.
