RWANDA : B-ball team to tour N.Africa

The men’s national basketball team is set to tour Tunisia for a series of build-up games in as part of its preparations for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations. According to the Rwanda Basketball Federation Secretary General Jean Lucien Mugabo, the team will leave Kigali on June 27.However, Mugabo could not reveal the names of clubs with which the Rwandan team would play against.

He only said, “At the moment, we haven’t decided on the particular clubs we intend to play with.”
“But once we reach [in Tunisia], we shall hold a technical meeting with the Tunisian Basketball authorities for talks about which teams would be available for the games,” he noted.

From Tunisia, the team will connect to Cairo for three international build-up against the Egyptian national team and the country’s top two clubs.

The last time the two sides met, the Egyptians came out on top during the finals of the Zone Five Championship held early this year in Kigali.
Mugabo said the build-up games are being organized to help players gain more exposure playing at the highest level ahead of the Can championship scheduled for August 16-24 in the Angolan capital Luanda.

In a related development, the Secretary General revealed that Canadian based professional Hamza Ruhezamihigo will link with the national team in Egypt. The arrival of the 21-year old who was voted Most Valuable Players for the Zone Five championship will be a major boost to the team.
