NIGERIA : FIBA U19 Championship: Team for Serbia Ready

The final list of the twelve players that will represent Nigeria at the July 12 through 22 FIBA U19 World Championship have been made known by the coaching crew led by Adeka Dauda Thursday just as the players were asked to proceed on a two-day vacation to resume Sunday for the final phase of preparation for the World met slated for Serbian city of Novi Sad.

Coach Dauda gave the list which includes two point guards, three off-guards, three small forwards, two power forward and two centres.

The coach says it was tough arriving at the decision to drop the two players (Azeez Oladimeji and Ice Ngutshe) from the final list as they are equally good to make the team if the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF gave approval for all fourteen players to be taken to the championship.

He gave the names of those who make the twelve-man list to include Michael Ohiero and Daniel Daudu as the point guards; Ayodeji Egbeyemi, Nosa Omorogbe and Mohammed Bukar as the off-guards; Ibrahim Adamu, George Ehiagwina and Emmanuel Negedu as the small-forward; the power-forward has Joseph Katuka and Abel Baraya while the two centres are Solomon Alabi and Dele Coker.

Coach Dauda said the players are in high spirit and promised that they will not disappoint when hosltilities began in Novi Sad and urged those dropped to see it as an end to a means.

One of the dropped players, Oladimeji wished his lucky colleagues well in Serbia and promise to stage a come back to the Nigeria national team.

The team is expected to jet out of Nigeria on July 10 which has been described as too close for comfort as the players and their handlers might not have enough rest before it first game on July 12.
