KENYA : ALSA JaMalaria | Junior Basketball Teams mark ARFICA MALARIA DAY

This year, ALSA and USIU Ladies Basketball Team will host junior basketball community groups to a one day basketball tournament in commemoration of Africa Malaria Day, which is held on April 25th,every year. The tournament is for boys and girls aged 17 years and below and is aimed at both creating awareness on Malaria and launch of mosquito nets collection campaign that will be run by USIU Ladies Basketball Team in their effort to join in the fight against Malaria. The tournament dubbed JaMalaria Junior Basketball Challenge will be held on April 28th, 2007 from 9.00 am and will double up as a launch for this event to be held annually in commemoration of Africa Malaria Day as we strive to promote advocacy amongst the youth and youth organizations to become malaria champions. Through this initiative, USIU Ladies Basketball Team will lead other teams and universities and set an example for other sports in using the power of sports to make a difference in the society. The nets collected will be presented to ALSA JaMalaria Initiative at the annual JaMalaria Basketball Camp held in August. The nets will be presented to the less fortunate members of our community in the most malaria prone areas.
