The final lap for the Vmobile Premier Basketball League will start this afternoon as the national Final-4 play off holds at the National Stadium in Lagos. This weekend's competition marks the final lap of the play off series that began with the Atlantic Conference teams in Lagos before moving over to Kaduna last weekend where the Savannah Conference teams held their zonal play off games.

The opening game for the national event is the game between former league champions Ebun Comets and Plateau Peaks of Jos. In the national finals of many seasons gone by, the Peaks were major problems to the aspiration of the Comets and the situation could also be quite a test for the Comets this time.

The Peaks are riding on good current form going by their outing in Kaduna last weekend while the Comets are haunted by the absence of one of their players Orseer Ikyator who left the country for South Africa on Wednesday with the junior national team as Nigeria features in the African Junior men's Championship. The player was a major feature in the Most Valuable Player (MVP) selection while the Atlantic Conference qualifiers lasted.

The opening game between Comets, champions of the Atlantic and Peaks runners-up of the Savannah Conference would take the jump ball at 2.00pm

The next match in the two game per day series is between Niger Potters and Dodan Warriors. Both teams finished as winners and runners-up of their various conferences. But even as the spectators remain in suspense as to the outcome of the match, the captain of the Potters Abubakar Usman is certain of how the final picture would look like.

"We have come this far because of hard work and we know this would see us through when we all gather in Lagos. I don't see any team stopping us from winning the trophy," Abubakar said.

The Potters point guard says he is very confident because of the rosters of the four teams in the finals.

"We know these teams. We have played with and against most of the players and so we know what to expect," he said in the euphoria of their hundred percent victory in Kaduna. The player was voted the overall MVP of the Savannah Conference.

The Vmobile League play off will feature two games daily starting from 2.00pm and with a lot of side attractions. A number of Nigerian celebrated musicians have been lined up to perform live at the venue.

The champions of the Vmobile League will represent Nigerian in the next African Champions League competition.
