NIGERIA : : Delta, Edo Win Milo Atlantic Conference

Delta State's representatives in the girls' category, Asaba Girls Grammar School, Asaba and Edo State's representatives in the boys' category, St. Thomas's Basic Group of Schools, Benin City have emerged champions of the just concluded Atlantic Conference of this year's Nestle Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championship.

The conference held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Delta State Sports Council, Asaba lived up to expectations as the participating teams put everything in place to win the trophies.

In the girls final, Asaba Girls Grammar School, Asaba defeated Government Technical College, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State 19 -11 to lift the trophy.

The Delta girls proved from the first quarter of the game that they are ready for the trophy as they finished the first quarter leading 8 -3 and led all the way through the remaining quarters to end the match at 19 -11.

And in the boys' showdown, St. Thomas Basic Group of Schools, Benin City defeated Magic Touch Academy, Warri, Delta State 35 - 28 points to lift the boys' title.

The thrilling encounter saw the first quarter ending 15 -12 in favour of St. Thomas, but at the resumption of the second quarter, Magic Touch levelled scores at 15 -15 only for St. Thomas to end the quarter at 31 - 24 points and went ahead to win the match at 35 - 28.

In his response at the end of the competition, Regional Sales Manager (South-South) of Nestle Nigeria PLC, Adewale Arikawe praised the teams for their fighting spirit.

"The matches in this conference have been very competitive and I must confess that the teams lived up to expectations", he said.

According to him, Nestle Milo is proud to sponsor the competition and will continue the sponsorship for years to come.

"The commitment is to develop the game and sports in general. We will continue to actualise our support to the growth of the game", he said.With the victories, Asaba Girls Grammar School and St. Thomas Basic School would represent the Atlantic Conferences at the national finals billed for Lagos later in October.
