ZIMBABWE : Basketball teams clash in national league

BULAWAYO basketball teams face a mammoth task when they face three clubs from Harare and Gweru in the first round of the national league set to be played at BCD Court tomorrow.

City champions Giants and Lords clash with Harare sides Mufakose Hawks, Raiders and Steelers from Gweru for twoquarter final places. The national league is the biggest basketball tournament in the country where top basketball sides battle it out for honours.
A total of 17 teams are set to sweat it out for quarterfinal places in Bulawayo, Harare, Mutare and Gweru. Each city will play host to four teams with the exception of Bulawayo which will have five teams.
The top two teams in each pool will proceed to the quarterfinals which will be played in Bulawayo the following weekend. A lot will be at stake in tomorrow’s games as clashes between Bulawayo and Harare teams are treated as more than just games but a battle for supremacy between the cities. Mufakose Hawks and Raiders have been finding the going tough in the Harare league so Lords and Giants should use that to their own advantage.
Meanwhile, one of the matches was played last night and involved Giants and Lords. The match had been scheduled for tomorrow but was changed to yesterday because Lords do not play on Saturdays. Lords are a Seventhday Adventist run club.
