KENYA : Kenyans Crush Jinja in Inter-Cities Tourney

Nairobi's campaign for a regional crown stayed on course yesterday when they crushed Jinja 102-63 in a basketball match in the East and Central Africa Inter-Cities championships at Lugogo Stadium, Kampala, Uganda.

Ancette Wafula hit 26 points and Peter Kiganya posted 13 for Nairobi, who led 50-29 at the break. Rukarie Sam made 15 for the Ugandans.

Nairobi had earlier whipped Dar-es-Salaam 78-58 in their opener on Tuesday, with Kiganya scoring 23 points, Richard Osano contributing 17 and Ben Oluoch adding a further 15.

Nairobi women's side also did well when they beat Jinja 57-41 and upped their chances of reaching the semi-finals.Joyce Makung' scored 10 points, while Hilda Luvandwa and Caroline Achieng' combined for another 18. The team was boosted by the arrival on Thursday of key guard Angela Luchivya.

"The matches have not been easy for us without Angie," said captain Evelyn Kedogo. "But with her arrival, things will be better."

Nairobi had earlier beaten Kisumu City 75-36 in their opening campaign, although they later lost 54-44 to host city Kampala in their second match.
