BURUNDI: Burundians in Semi-Finals

Burundi's Urunani booked themselves a place in the semi-finals of the East and Central Africa Club championship when they beat Nkumba Marine of Uganda by six points at the Nyayo basketball gymnasium yesterday.

Uranani (70 points) made use of every opportunity which came their way unlike their opponents who were constantly off target.

The eams levelled scores twice during the length of the game; at 15 points in the first quarter and 24 in the second.

The Burundian team staged a strong defensive game as their boys took full advantage of their height to block well stopping their opponents from running the ball to the basket.

Kanamugira Olivier was Urunani's top scorer with 25 points while Salim Mzee topped his side with 21 points.

The win earned Urunani two points which put them second to Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) who top men's pool "A" with four points.

Ulinzi and Co-op Bank have already qualified for the semifinals in pool "A". The two were playing a game to determine the top team in their pool at Press time.Although APR of Rwanda's hopes of reaching the semifinals were shattered by Ulinzi and Co-op bank to whom they lost in their opening exchanges, they hammered Stone Town of Zanzibar by a massive 71 points at the same venue.

APR came third in the pool with two points while Stone Town who only manages to score a paltry 45 points were last with no points.

As for the women's championships, Kenya teams Sprite Storm and Kenya Ports Authority are likely to meet in the final. Both are unbeaten so far with four points a piece.
